It all started as a dream. After almost 12 years in the Army and 12 years
in Corporate America, Kyo Sa Nim Henry Pugh decided to attempt to
make the dream a reality. Funding was secured, rental space located and
used equipment purchased. On July 1, 2006, the doors were opened and
Belton Martial Arts Academy was born.
The training space was small (only about 600 sq ft) but then again, we
didn’t have any students yet. On opening day, we taught 6 hours of FREE
Introductory lessons. By the end of the day, we had signed up 4 students.
By the end of the first month, the total enrollment had grown to 8 and we
were teaching one class per day.
After the first year, we had grown to over 50 active students, divided up
into 4 classes each day, and had put together a special class called Karat-
A-Tots for our younger students. It was decided that a larger training area
was required if we were going to continue to grow, so we began the
search for more space. It turns out that we didn’t have to look far, just 5
doors down in the same complex was a space that would allow us to
move from 600 sq ft of training space to 1067 sq ft. In August 2015, we
moved into our largest facility to date. We now have a building with a total
of 2500 sq ft. Now we can move forward with our plans to start an After
School Program and hopefully a Summer Camp Program.
Fortunately, the school has continued to grow and as of August 2011, we
experienced our highest active student count to date of 127. As of April
2016 we have promoted 46 students to the rank of Cho Dan (1st Degree
Black Belt), 14 students to the rank of Ee Dan (2nd Degree Black Belt), 4
students have been awarded Kyo Sa (Certified Instructor) and in the Fall
of 2016 will have our 3rd student testing for Sahm Dan (3rd Degree Black
Belton Martial Arts Academy is a family oriented school. That doesn’t just
mean that families are welcome to come and train, it means that once you
are a member, you are part of our family. We are a family that works hard
together to accomplish common goals and supports one another in all
aspects of both training and every day life.
We would love to have you come and be a part of our family.
